Calm Down with Vetiver Essential Oil

Emotional stress is a part of everyone’s life and can be hard to manage without the proper tools. Vetiver essential oil  has traditionally been used to help with emotional, hormonal, and balance issues.

Vetiver is known for its calming properties and its ability to help children increase focus. Additionally, it can help with sleep and is a popular oil to diffuse or rub on the bottom of feet before bedtime.

Its rich, smoky, exotic, and earthy fragrance is complementary to many other essential oils and is a common fragrance used in perfumes as a base note. Read our previous blog post for ideas on how to make your own personalized perfume blend using dōTERRA essential oils. Vetiver essential oil blends well with Clary Sage, Lavender, Rose, Sandalwood, and Ylang Ylang.

dōTERRA Tips on How to Use Vetiver Essential Oil:

  • Vetiver is anti-septic and can help with blemishes or blemish prone skin. Apply a small amount to skin to help problem areas.
  • Use a toothpick to help get desired amount out of container if vetiver is too thick to get out of the bottle. A little goes a long way.
  • Take a warm bath with a few drops of vetiver essential oil for deep relaxation.
  • Diffuse or use topically with other calming essential oils, such as lavender, serenity, or balance, to better help calm stress.

  1. I love vetiver!! My 5 children and I have been using it every night on our big toes, sometimes along with lavender for an extra boost and lovely sweet smell. They refuse to go to bed before putting it on =)

  2. One Saturday a few months back, my nerves were fried after being hit at every angle with stress the past week. That Saturday I felt so much tension building; I honestly did not know whether to cry or scream to let it out. I suddenly remembered having a bottle of Vetiver I had never tried and thought well, its worth a try. I placed a drop on my tongue, and a dab or two on my neck and in 15 minutes the weight of the world seemed to melt off my shoulders. I would definitely recommend Vetiver for stressful days.

  3. I love Vetiver in my bath. It relaxes me and seems to make me happier. I read on another blog that it’s known to help with depression and anxiety. I don’t use cologne or perfume much any more, but back when I did, my favorite fragrance was Ysatis by Givenchy. Curiously, I did some research and discovered that Ysatis has (you guessed) vetiver in it.

  4. I’m looking for something that would work as an earthy base to bergamot and lavender. Would vetiver work in that sense?
