Mother Knows Best
I’m not a mother, but I do have nieces and nephews whom I love. I recently watched my sister’s blog as she posted time and again about my little niece and her continuing fever. The pictures of her on the couch and in her mother’s arms pulled at my heart strings. I hate watching family members suffer and each time my sister called I could hear the strain in her voice as she expressed concern for her child.
Now I’m sure all the independent product consultants out there reading this post are thinking of a long line of dōTERRA products that could have proven useful, but me being a novice, I failed to help at all. I read, listened, called to check up, prayed and sympathized, but with her in Colorado and me here, I felt my ability to help was limited. Thankfully I have a loving mother who is quick on her feet and slightly more seasoned than I happen to be.
When my sister called my mom expressing concern at her daughter’s continued high fever and listless responses, my mom simply asked what she had on hand. I had forgotten, but a week prior during my sister’s visit, I had stopped by on my way home from work with a bag of dōTERRA products. Like so many times before, I had arrived with half a dozen and had left with only my dōTERRA lemon oil. My sister had taken the Introduction to Oils kit and that’s what she had on hand.
My mother, who has always looked to alternative means for her family’s health, is quite familiar with essential oils. She recommended my sister dilute and rub peppermint oil on my niece’s chest, back, and feet. My sister called my mom the next morning expressing her surprise at the drop in her daughter’s temperature. Despite the change however, she still felt as if something was wrong. Her daughter just wasn’t herself.
My mom, who raised nine children of her own, is quite familiar with sick children and the symptoms that accompany illness. After listening carefully to my sister describe her daughter’s symptoms, including the continued listless responses, my mother exclaimed, “It’s her ears.” She suggested that my sister warm lavender oil and rub it behind and on the outside of her daughter’s ears. My sister called the next morning excited, “Mom, I have my daughter back!”
Each of my family members grew up with my mom throwing herbs, oils, and homemade tonics at our varied illnesses. I can’t begin to describe to you the taste and the textures of some of those awful concoctions. As we grew up and moved out we discovered doctors and Tylenol, but when we’re in real need it’s my mom that we turn to. She raised nine healthy children and has eight beautiful, healthy grandchildren. I have to admit there is a lot to be said for alternative means, especially dōTERRA essential oils, for your family’s health.

Amazing story. I am just learning about the power of these essential oils. So heartwarming to hear that the little girl got better with essential oils rather than the standard MD approach of “antibiotics” and Tylenol. I hope to learn a lot more in the coming months.

Thank you for sharing your experience using essentials with childhood illnesses. I have been using doTERRA oils for 3 years now and I am learning something new all the time on how to deal with the different health issues of my family. Recently I had a great experience using On Guard blend with my 3 month old baby. I have the maternity book guide for using essential oils during pregnancy and for infants from aromatools. My 3 month old baby had caught an illness from his sister that caused a very high fever. I called our doctor and they told me to monitor very carefully because if the fever got too high, the baby would need to go to the hospital. The fever did get very high and hit 101. He was drinking enough fluids, keeping them down and showed no signs of dehydration. In the guide the directions said to take 1 drop of On Guard diluted in 1 Tbsp of coconut oil. I then rubbed it on the bottom of my babies feet every 3 hours. The temperature came down gradually after the first application and was completely gone after the 2nd application. After 24 hours my baby was fever free and acting happier. I was amazed how this oil blend helped the fever and flu bug at the same time. I know with babies and young children you need to be careful with using the essential oils, but it can be done safely when following a guide and always diluting the oils with carrier oil.
